We have lost a great figure, whose works always reflected the homeland: Armen Sarkissian
The President of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, has sent a condolence message in connection with the death of sculptor Arto Chakmakchian. According to the press office of the President’s Administration, the message states:
“We have suffered a tragic loss. Sculptor Arto Chakmakchian has passed away. We have lost a great figure, whose every creation pulsated with the heart of restless time, whose works always embodied the homeland—whether visibly or invisibly— that homeland which always lived within him and inspired him. Because he was sincere when he said, ‘I left Armenia to continue loving Armenia. I have never distanced myself from Armenia in spirit, even for a day.’
Arto’s works enriched our cultural treasury and brought Armenian art to the international stage. He will continue to live in Armenia—in our memory, in the history of our culture.
I sincerely express my condolences to the Master’s family, his relatives, and loved ones, and share their grief.”
