Pashinyan and Rohani Discuss Development of Economic Ties

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hassan Rohani, who arrived in Armenia to participate in the meeting of the EAEU Supreme Economic Council.

This was reported by the press service of the Government of Armenia.

The Prime Minister noted that this is the Iranian president's first visit to Armenia following the political changes in the country, and Armenia places great importance on its relations with neighboring and friendly countries.

The activities of the regularly held intergovernmental commission were emphasized, which result in agreements aimed at the development of economic ties.

Prime Minister Pashinyan stated that Armenia highly appreciates Iran's balanced stance on the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

President Hassan Rohani expressed gratitude for the warm welcome.

"We highly value the development and expansion of relations with Armenia in all areas, as a friend and neighbor. We are ready to continue our work with your government aimed at developing and implementing new projects, and expanding the volumes of the gas-electricity swap program. We are interested in implementing regional projects in the energy sector and developing infrastructure," said Rohani.

According to Hassan Rohani, the Iranian side is also interested in cooperation with Armenia in the field of transportation infrastructure, including involvement in various road construction projects in the country.

Prime Minister Pashinyan welcomed the Iranian side's readiness to expand the gas-electricity swap program. The Prime Minister and President assigned their governments' officials to develop and present proposals for expanding cooperation in the specified areas within a short period.

The parties also addressed issues related to cooperation in the railway sector, high technology, customs, science, and tourism.

Hassan Rohani emphasized that the volume of trade between the two countries has significantly increased since the team led by Prime Minister Pashinyan assumed leadership of the Armenian government, and joint projects continue to be successfully implemented.

The Iranian President added that they are ready to discuss the process of implementing the Meghri Hydro Power Plant construction project and expanding trade volumes through bilateral capital investments and free trade zones.

The interlocutors exchanged views on issues related to the transit routes connecting the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea.

Prime Minister Pashinyan emphasized that implementing this project aligns with the strategic interests of our country, and Armenia is ready to take practical steps towards this goal.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed other issues of regional significance.
