Fact: Judge Mher Arghamanyan's Son Is an Active Member of My Step Alliance in Kocharyan Case

The newspaper "Fact" reports that the defense team of the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, filed a cassation appeal regarding the decision made by the general jurisdiction court judge Anna Danibekyan on September 17, which rejected their request to lift the detention measure imposed on Kocharyan and to release him immediately.

Recently, it became known that the case has been assigned to Judge Mher Arghamanyan. This fact raised questions for many. The judge's son, David Arghamanyan, is a lawyer, a legal advisor to the My Step alliance, and also an active member of that coalition. In addition, Judge Arghamanyan has a relatively low rating in the judges' evaluation scale.

Throughout the day yesterday, many raised questions about how impartial the judge could be, and whether it was coincidental that he was the one examining the case of the second President of the Republic of Armenia.

Lawyer Yervand Varosyan said in an interview with "Fact" that he does not trust this computer-based selection of judges. “Naturally, the law is set up so that everything should be random, but ever since the introduction of this computer-based assignment, I have no confidence in this system. There is a layer of cases that are associated with specific interest. We will constantly find ourselves in a flood of criminal cases-arrests-detention. Where this will lead us is highly questionable,” noted the newspaper's interlocutor.
