"Zhamanak": The Russian Side Has Installed Fake Scales at Upper Lars and Is Making Money

"Zhamanak" newspaper reports that Armenian drivers heading to Russia claim that the unprecedented traffic jams at the Upper Lars checkpoint are caused by newly installed scales, which do not correspond to the actual weight of the vehicles' cargo.

One Armenian driver asserted that this has been done to extort additional money from drivers. According to our interlocutor, approximately $2 million is being extorted daily from drivers on the Russian side; this issue does not only concern Armenian drivers but also freight carriers from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Georgia, and other countries using this checkpoint.
