VIDEO. Marutyan has Adapted to Taron Margaryan's 'Suit': Khajakyan

In Yerevan, amendments and additions to the RA law on local self-governance were planned with 10 points, of which only one was accepted by the government.

This was announced during a Facebook live stream by Ani Samsonyan, a member of the National Assembly from the 'Bright Armenia' party.

“Back in 2018, Taron Margaryan proposed changes to the law that restricted the powers of the council in several issues. At that time, the 'Yelq' faction protested against these changes. We hoped that after the change of power, we would restore the powers of the council,” she said.

According to Samsonyan, the former council of Yerevan, specifically the 'Yelq' faction, had summarized the proposals and presented them to the then-leader of the 'Yelq' faction, Nikol Pashinyan.

Davitt Khajakyan, the leader of the 'Light' faction in the Yerevan Council, added that the amendments they proposed should have been the complete proposal from 'Yelq'.

“We propose that local referendums can be initiated by council factions, but due to Taron Margaryan's proposal, the law was changed, which was confirmed by the majority of the NA from the Republican Party. Previously, we could appeal to the mayor with a proposal regarding a referendum, and that project would be included in the council's agenda. Now, we have been deprived of that opportunity.

It was suggested that one-third of the council members be the threshold, which did not exist in 'Yelq', resulting in the fact that the faction could not make such a decision without a majority. The same thing is happening now; the government rejects what we were saying back then, not to deprive us of that opportunity,” said Davitt Khajakyan, noting that “now it seems that Hayk Marutyan has adapted to Taron Margaryan's 'suit.'”
