Euthanasia Permitted in Italy
Euthanasia will be applied only in exceptional cases. Assisting a person in ending their life is not a crime if they are suffering unbearable pain. The Italian Constitutional Court has made a ruling to this effect, thereby legalizing euthanasia.
It is noted that the scandalous death of Fabiano Antonioni, known as DJ Fabo, served as an example for the Italian court in making this decision. In 2017, he underwent euthanasia at a Swiss clinic, following a car accident three years earlier that left him blind and without the use of his hands, legs, and mobility.
The Catholic Church traditionally holds a strong position in Italy and considers euthanasia immoral and equivalent to suicide, which is prohibited by religion. The Church is unequivocally dissatisfied with this decision.
