The Cause of Traffic Jams at Upper Lars is Overweight Cargo, Melkumyan

Traffic jams at Upper Lars are easing somewhat. This was stated by Mikhail Melkumyan, a member of the Parliament from the Prosperous Armenia faction, in an interview with Tert.am.

According to Melkumyan, the main reason for the jams is the weight of cargo exceeding the permitted limits, which not only causes traffic congestion but also results in fines. "Since yesterday, I have been in direct contact with partners in the economic sector at Upper Lars. The latest information I received a few hours ago is that already 150 trucks have been allowed to pass," said Melkumyan.

“When trucks carrying wheat arrive at the customs checkpoint at Upper Lars after passing through various cities, it turns out that the cargoes are heavier than allowed, which constitutes a violation, resulting in a fine of approximately 100,000 rubles for the importer,” Melkumyan added.

He also noted that while passing through different cities, the weight of the cargo is checked, and upon reaching the verification section at the Upper Lars checkpoint, there is a significant difference noticed. There is a discrepancy between the accuracy of scales in other cities and those in Lars.

According to Melkumyan, the 150 trucks that have passed through the checkpoint likely did so after being fined. He also mentioned that importers who have worked through electronic bank transfers have encountered fewer problems than those who provided handwritten invoices, which has also put them at risk of fines.
