The Armenian People Grateful to Jacques Chirac, Says Nikol Pashinyan

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has sent a condolence message to French President Emmanuel Macron regarding the death of former President Jacques Chirac. This was reported by the Prime Minister's Office's Information and Public Relations Department.

“With great sadness and sorrow, I learned about the death of former French President Jacques Chirac. France has lost a great statesman. Having dedicated his entire life to France and embodying its greatness, he further elevated France’s reputation on the international stage by connecting his unwavering service to his homeland with actions aimed at protecting the rights and sovereignty of other nations.

The Armenian people will not forget President Chirac’s sincere friendship, his decisive contribution to the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by law, and his mediatory involvement in the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The Armenian people are also grateful to Chirac for his efforts in preserving Armenian cultural heritage, including his personal attention to the cultural monuments of Ani, the historic capital of Armenia.

President Chirac was indeed a symbol of the revival of Armenian-French interstate relations. We fondly remember his state visit to Armenia, his participation in the opening of France Square in Yerevan, and the unprecedented celebration of Armenia Year in France.

I express my deepest condolences to the French people, the French state, and to Chirac’s family and friends. The Armenian people equally mourn the passing of this remarkable statesman and great individual,” the message reads.
