Lydian Armenia Sues Prosperous Armenia Parliamentary Member

Lydian Armenia LLC has filed a lawsuit against Sergey Bagratyan, a member of the Prosperous Armenia faction in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. This information comes from the Judicial Information System.

The plaintiff demands that the deputy be ordered to refute the data which is considered defamatory, compensate for statements that tarnish his business reputation, and recover the state duty that has been prepaid.

The lawsuit was filed on September 24 and assigned to Judge Sargis Yeritsyan of the Yerevan City Court of General Jurisdiction.

Inga Sarafyan, a representative of Lydian Armenia, did not disclose the basis and subject of the lawsuit during our conversation.

Sergey Bagratyan noted that he is aware of the lawsuit: “The reason for the lawsuit is that I allegedly stated during a meeting with the residents of Jermuk that they obtained the license through corrupt means.”

When asked if he made such a statement, Bagratyan responded, “No, during a discussion related to the Amulsar issue, a citizen sent me a letter asking why numerous mining sites that are harmful have received licenses. I responded that it falls within the framework of the authorities’ corrupt agreements.”

When asked if Amulsar is included among those mining sites, Bagratyan replied, “If they assume that this also pertains to them and that their representative has filed a lawsuit in this sense, I assume they are also included in those risks, which is why they have filed a lawsuit. What I said pertained, for instance, to the licenses announced by Silva Hambardzumyan. If they believe this concerns them—that is their decision.”

Addressing whether he will provide evidence if the court accepts the lawsuit, Bagratyan said, “They must provide proof. I do not have anything to prove. I am quoting information found in the press, the materials related to Silva Hambardzumyan, and the court will decide whether to qualify it as defamation or not.”
