A Dispute Occurred at Geghard Monastery Between a Priest and Defrocked Clergymen
Materials are being prepared in the Kotayk police department regarding the complaint filed by Priest Kyuregh in the Kotayk police on September 23. According to shamshyan.com, he reported that on September 19 at around 3:00 PM, defrocked former clergy members Ghazaros Kyureghyan and Armen Arakelyan visited the Holy Geghard Monastery. They were accompanied by 4-5 other individuals.
The former clergymen, wearing ecclesiastical robes they were not authorized to wear, attempted to conduct a ceremony from which they were also prohibited by church regulations. Priest Kyuregh urged them to calm down and not to perform actions reserved solely for ordained clergy. Following this, the former clergy exhibited clearly disrespectful behavior towards the church and its serving individuals, demonstrating aggressive conduct and attempting to provoke a conflict, thus violating the public order and rules of the church.
Photoreporter Gagik Shamshyan reported that Priest Kyuregh did not previously appeal to law enforcement due to his busy schedule.
