He Should Not Have Deserved This Fate: Sargsyan on Harutyunyan's Death
I do not rule out the suicide theory, but I do not understand what could have driven Hayk Harutyunyan to take such an extreme step. This was stated today, on September 25, by the former chief of police, General Hayk Harutyunyan, during a conversation with journalists at the funeral service.
According to him, Hayk Harutyunyan was a very principled, decisive, serious, and strong-willed man. “Hayk Harutyunyan was a professional in his field, one of those devoted to his work and the police. He should not have deserved this fate; he should have lived long,” said Sargsyan.
Responding to reports that Hayk Harutyunyan may have suffered from an illness, Alik Sargsyan noted that he has no such information. “He was very healthy, a former athlete; the other questions that are currently being discussed in the media and among the public are very foreign and incomprehensible to me,” added the police chief.
Regarding the theory put forward by the preliminary investigation body, suggesting that the former police chief committed suicide, Alik Sargsyan stated: “I do not rule out the suicide theory, but knowing him, I cannot understand what could have driven Hayk Harutyunyan to take such an extreme measure, which at this moment has no explanation; it was not in his character or disposition. Forgive me, but I believe that those who always lack the will to make a decision resort to such measures when they see no other way to live. Hayk Harutyunyan was a strong man and could withstand everything.”
Alik Sargsyan announced that the investigation has serious work to fully clarify the circumstances surrounding Hayk Harutyunyan’s death.
When asked if it is true that Hayk Harutyunyan had a penchant for alcohol, Alik Sargsyan responded: “The last time I saw him was about three months ago, but over the years, I have never seen him drunk; he might have had a glass or two to improve his mood. If he had been aggressive in recent months and started drinking alcohol, I have no information about that.”
