I Will Talk About the Reasons for My Departure Later: Osipyan

The former Chief of Police of Armenia, Valery Osipyan, has issued a statement regarding his resignation from the position of Chief of Police. Below is the text of the statement.

"I have served my country and people, the law and justice throughout my life, guided solely by the honor and dignity of a soldier. I will continue to serve my people with the same principles and standards of morality. I will talk about the reasons for my departure later; however, today I want to express my gratitude to the Armenian people for evaluating the work of the police and for appreciating the changes made. I thank the entire personnel of the system—from the rank and file to the generals, the police forces, the public council of the Chief of Police, and the media for standing by us during this difficult and responsible period for the state. I am grateful to all those with whom I have walked a long and arduous path in carrying out our honorable service. I wish everyone a noble and selfless service, unwavering loyalty to the honor and dignity of a soldier, determination in decision-making, and readiness. I thank everyone for their professional and selfless service. I am honored."

It is noteworthy that Armenian President Armen Sarkissian signed a decree today to dismiss Valery Osipyan from the position of Chief of Police. Earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had proposed the dismissal of Valery Osipyan from his position as Chief of Police to President Sarkissian. The duties of the Chief of Police will be performed by the Deputy Chief of Police, Arman Sargsyan.

Valery Osipyan was appointed to this position in May 2018. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan wrote on his Facebook page regarding this appointment: "This decision should have a symbolic significance; it is a good symbol that we should try to eliminate the culture of barbed wire from Armenia." Previously, Osipyan was the Deputy Chief of Police in Yerevan. It should also be noted that earlier, the Director of the National Security Service, Arthur Vanetsyan, resigned from his position.
