Defense Team of Kocharian Conceals Circumstances of Flight Ticket Booking

The prosecution considers the defense's motion to release the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharian, on bail to be unfounded. During today’s court session, state prosecutor Petros Petrosyan addressed the court, reiterating their objection to the fact that after the preventive measure of detention was lifted, Robert Kocharian took no action to evade the investigation or exert illegal influence over individuals involved in the criminal case.

Petrosyan stated that after the release of the second president, it was indicated that due to health issues, he had applied to the investigative body for permission to leave the country. The fact that the booked flight tickets were canceled following a negative response from the investigative body should not be viewed in isolation.

“The matter of booking flight tickets was brought to our attention from other sources, and not from them, stating that they had already been booked. Given this as an attempt to evade, the investigative body initiated the preventive measure of a non-departure signature on September 4, 2018,” he said. Petrosyan also noted that Robert Kocharian has never anticipated finding himself in such a position, as evident from his statements in court.
