Unfortunately, this is one of the many absurdities that this government has allowed itself. Martirosyan on Vanetsyan's resignation
Political scientist Hayk Martirosyan addressed the resignation of NSS director Arthur Vanetsyan on his Facebook page, stating: "In the political analytical field, everyone has long understood that in the context of his plummeting popularity, Arthur Vanetsyan has the best chances of being brought to power through a possible palace coup executed by his own supporters.
When the head of state allows his special service — essentially a secret police — leader to give interviews almost every day and gradually become a rock star, it is not the fault of that individual for taking advantage of this unprecedented opportunity, but rather the head of state, who permits such unprecedented imprudence. The hyper-popular secret policeman, with the resources under his control, is the best candidate for executing or benefiting from a palace coup.
This is precisely why in any normal country, the head of special services has never been someone so public and with such a high approval rating, lacking any political past and not being an individual with any contributions to democracy, civil society, or revolutionary movements. Now, when this Prime Minister, lacking any political science knowledge, has quite late come to understand this simple political truth, he is removing from power the very persona he had nurtured while simultaneously attempting to cast shadows on him.
This is a good indicator of how this Prime Minister makes gross mistakes and then tries to rectify some of them when the consequences are already going to be very severe. Turning an ordinary security officer into a super star and then removing him without explanation, allowing him to appear from the position of a victim of the opposition, is one of the most reckless behaviors that a country's leader can allow himself."
