Illegal Drug Circulation Case Reported; 2 Individuals Arrested

The Investigative Committee of Armenia is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding illegal drug circulation in the Shengavit administrative district of Yerevan. According to the information department of the Investigative Committee, two individuals have been arrested.

As a result of measures undertaken by the Armenian Police, on September 9, 2019, at 18:05, an individual from the Ararat province was detained near one of the buildings on Shiraz Street in Yerevan, suspected of illegally obtaining, possessing, and distributing drugs. This individual, born in 1982, was apprehended in a vehicle, an “Opel-Corsa.”

A search conducted in accordance with the law revealed two packages containing greenish substances weighing 0.87 grams and 1.01 grams, respectively. In addition, during the examination of the vehicle, a polyethylene bag containing crystalline substances weighing a total of 5.17 grams was also discovered between the front seats.

A criminal case has been initiated at the Shengavit division of the Armenian Police under Article 266, Part 3, Clause 2 and Article 268, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, and the case has been forwarded for investigation to the Shengavit division of the Investigative Committee.

The seized drugs have undergone forensic chemical examination. According to the expert's conclusion, the crystalline mass weighing 5.17 grams is classified as a type of drug known as “Methamphetamine.”

The investigation revealed that the man born in 1982 had illegally acquired a significant quantity of 5.17 grams of “Methamphetamine” from a local resident born in 1972 for the purpose of distribution, and transported it in a personal “Opel-Corsa” vehicle to the rear of a high-rise building on Shiraz Street in Yerevan.

As a result of immediate investigative and operational measures, the man born in 1972 was located. During the investigation, immediate actions were taken, witnesses were questioned, and it was uncovered that there were several circumstances regarding the acquisition and distribution of the drugs. A forensic chemical examination was scheduled to identify significant aspects of the criminal case.

Based on the combination of sufficient evidence, charges have been filed against the two men born in 1972 and 1982 under Article 266, Part 3, Clause 2 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. They have been selected for detention as a precautionary measure.

The investigation is ongoing, and necessary investigative and procedural actions are being taken to determine the involvement of other individuals in the illegal circulation of drugs and to assess their actions accordingly from a criminal-legal perspective. Instructions have been given to the relevant division of the police.
