Armenia TV Fined for Scene of Woman's Face Being Injured with Scissors in Series
The Television and Radio Commission has fined Armenia TV 500,000 drams for scenes of violence and torture in the series "Anhasce Tsnvatsnerner" aired on August 22, 2019.
According to the Coalition Against Violence Against Women, the decision was made in accordance with Article 60, Clause 15 of the RA Law on Television and Radio.
The series featured a scene where one of the characters injures another character's nose with scissors. The depiction sparked a vigorous backlash and a wave of criticism on social media.
The commission emphasized that numerous studies indicate that discrimination and violence against women in the media directly impact the outbreak and prevalence of violence in public life, as well as the degree of brutality involved.
