Putin Drinks a Glass of Vodka in Dagestan
The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, has fulfilled a promise made 20 years ago by drinking a glass of vodka that he had not touched during his visit to Dagestan in 1999, reports the RIA Novosti agency.
The President met with local militia members who participated in the battles that unfolded in Dagestan during August-September 1999.
After delivering a greeting, Putin raised his glass and drank it to the end.
The media reminds that during these days, the republic, which is part of the Russian Federation, commemorates events from 20 years ago, when terrorist groups led by Shamil Basayev invaded the region. At that time, militia units composed of local residents came to the aid of military personnel.
