Five More Areas of Armenia Included in the Cultural Territories List
Five more areas of Armenia have been included in the list of cultural territories. This decision was made during a government meeting.
Specifically, the included areas are: the town of Meghri (formerly known as the Aravik province), the village of Ashnak in the Aragatsotn region, the city of Goris, the village of Khachik in the Vayots Dzor region, and the village of Verin Dvin in the Ararat region.
According to the rationale, the purpose of the decision is to update and enrich the existing list of cultural territories. This necessity arises from the requirements of Article 12, Paragraph 1 of UNESCO's 2003 Convention on the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, as well as the need to update the information included in Armenia's submissions for registration in UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage lists.
The Armenian government decision No. 241-N, which established the criteria for recognizing cultural territories and approving the list of cultural territories in the Republic of Armenia, was adopted on March 1, 2012. Currently, there is a need to update the lists of cultural territories related to the sustainability and dissemination of cultural territories, which is being carried out through the enrichment of the list.
