In Armenia, There Are 63,000 Unemployed, Yet 15,000 Indians Have Arrived This Year for Work

The newspaper "Joghvourd" reports that despite the number of unemployed individuals in Armenia reaching 63,085, Indian workers are considered a cheaper labor option. According to the Statistical Committee of Armenia, the number of job seekers in July 2019 was 82,820, which has shown no percentage change compared to the same period last year.

For instance, local builders demand 5,000-7,000 drams for labor, while Indians are willing to do the same work for only 3,000 drams. Additionally, the Statistical Committee revealed that in the first half of this year, 15,442 citizens from India have arrived in Armenia.

Indians are primarily engaged in greenhouse work in Armenian villages, with most residing and working in the rural areas of Ararat and Armavir provinces. Notably, Indian families are also arriving in Armenia to establish their own businesses.
