Garage Collapses, No Need for Alarm: Nazaratyans on Quakes
Sergey Nazaratyans, the former head of the Seismic Safety Service's northern (Gyumri) department, mentioned in an interview with ArmDaily.am that the epicenter zone is located within the area of the 1988 Spitak earthquake. "The epicenter was slightly over 6 on the Richter scale. At 20:22, the tremor measured 4 in Gyumri, slightly over 5 in Spitak, and 4 to 5 in Vanadzor," he stated.
According to Nazaratyans, there is no need to expect other anomalies. "There is no need for alarm. No other anomalies will be observed. There will be no destruction," he emphasized.
In response to the media's note that a resident of Spitak reported that his garage had collapsed, Nazaratyans commented, "The garage must have already been in a semi-collapsed state. Buildings typically sustain minor damage at a 6 magnitude quake."
