Video: Large-scale Embezzlement in Jrashen Village
Based on operational information received from the National Security Service of Armenia, officers from the Department for Combating Corruption and Economic Crimes of the Police, in cooperation with investigators from the Armavir Regional Police and the Armavir Division, have recorded a case of apparent embezzlement or misappropriation in particularly large amounts.
As a result of extensive operational-investigative activities, law enforcement officials determined that the former head of the Jrashen community, according to preliminary data obtained during the investigation, officially appointed close associates to positions such as deputy head of the community, librarian, and electrician during his tenure, who were actually absent from work. However, based on the currently known information from the investigation, a total of approximately 3 million 900 thousand drams in wages was embezzled under their names.
Furthermore, large sums of money were withdrawn from the community budget for waste collection, even though the person carrying out the mentioned function was paid only 40,000 drams each month. Thus, according to currently known data from the investigation, the community head has embezzled approximately 4 million 800 thousand drams in total.
According to preliminary data obtained during the investigation, the community head also signed a fictitious contract with a company owned by an individual entrepreneur, resulting in funds being transferred from the community budget to the company’s bank account and subsequently cashed out.
A criminal case has been initiated. Measures are being taken to clarify all circumstances of the case. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
