Daily Customs Clearance for 800-1000 Vehicles Expected at Gyumri Auto Customs

Daily Customs Clearance for 800-1000 Vehicles Expected at Gyumri Auto Customs

The construction of the auto customs facility in Gyumri has gained significant momentum within a month, but the pace is not satisfactory for its commissioning on October 11. This was announced today at the construction site by the Chairman of the State Revenue Committee, David Ananyan, who emphasized the need to shift to a heavy workload regime for the construction activities.

The construction of the auto customs is only the first phase of a comprehensive program, with the second phase planned for next year, which will see the establishment of a center for external economic activities. Currently, large-scale construction work is ongoing on 5.5 hectares of the total 21.5 hectares allocated for the construction of the auto customs and the general external economic service center.

Since the start of construction, the volume of work has doubled within one month, but it is still insufficient to complete the project on the set deadline. According to Chairman Ananyan, the current pace of work is not entirely satisfactory, but that does not mean that significant progress hasn't been made. Timelines must be adhered to, and if necessary, the contractor will switch to a 24-hour work schedule.

David Ananyan reaffirmed that the opening will take place on October 11. Aram Adamyan, the head of the contracting organization, stated that currently, eight construction organizations, ten suppliers, and a transportation mechanization organization are operating in the area, employing a total of 150 people. This number may rise to 350 in the future as the existing organizations ramp up their activities.

There is no shortage of labor at this stage of construction. The work of designers and technical supervisors is combined, and construction is taking place alongside the project design. There is no time to wait for the entire project to be ready; the contractor justifies this approach by progressing with the ongoing construction. Furthermore, the construction area has been expanded, and larger buildings are being erected instead of the originally planned smaller structures. The main building alone will occupy 3,500 square meters.

Due to the high groundwater levels in the area, double concrete pouring is being carried out for the foundations of the main building. The construction of two additional buildings, a warehouse and a transformer substation, is also underway simultaneously. The completion deadline for all constructions is the same: October 11.

The construction of the auto customs in Gyumri will address the issue of congestion at the Bagratashen customs checkpoint, and the opening of the auto customs is expected to positively impact the operational volumes of the other two checkpoints, Bavra and Gogavan. By the end of the year, it is planned that the Gyumri auto customs will not only handle customs clearance based on the one-stop principle but also register and account for vehicles.

It is anticipated that 800-1000 vehicles will be cleared here daily, providing jobs for 35 residents of Gyumri.
