Clash Occurs Near Georgian Parliament Building
A clash has occurred near the Georgian Parliament building, where representatives of the "Shame" movement have gathered to protest. The organizers of the movement are voicing their opposition to the appointment of a newly-installed Prime Minister, as reported by 1tv.ge.
This morning, Bidzina Ivanishvili, leader of the ruling "Georgian Dream" party, made new appointments and transfers within the government. He presented Giorgi Gakharia, the Minister of Internal Affairs, to parliament for the position of Prime Minister, who was met with whistles from the parliamentary opposition. The Speaker of Parliament had to ask them to leave the building.
Outside, opposition activists and leaders of the "Shame" movement had blocked all entrances to the parliament. Shortly after, however, police managed to open the entrance doors, forcing the protesters to move to the back entrance of the parliament.
Near the entrance to the parliament, MPs Lela Keburia, Khatuna Gogorishvili, and Elena Khoshtaria attempted to bring some of the protest organizers into the parliament building. However, police and state protection service officers did not allow the organizers to enter the building.
