A New Armenian-Georgian "Friendship" Bridge to Be Built Over the Debed River

The Iranian company Tunnel Sadd Ariana, which won the competition for the design and construction of the new bridge at the Bagratashen border checkpoint, has presented the bridge project to the State Non-Commercial Organization for the Implementation of Transport Programs and esteemed specialists in the field of bridge construction in the country. The geometric parameters, structural studies, and geological survey results for the construction of the bridge have been thoroughly discussed.

The design consultant has also presented the final project to the Georgian side and received their feedback. Representatives of the design consultant answered questions from representatives of the Transport Programs Implementation Organization, head of the Roads and Bridges Department at the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia, Hakob Gyulzadyan, and PhD in Technical Sciences Artashes Sargsyan, noting that the design was carried out in accordance with international standards, considering seismic stability and various other factors.

Hakob Gyulzadyan, discussing the bridge project, pointed out that a viable project has been presented. After the final design is approved by the clients, it will need to undergo expert examination before construction can begin. A multilateral meeting involving Armenian and Georgian sides, along with the designer, will be organized in the near future.

It is noteworthy that the new bridge, named "Friendship," which will connect Armenia and Georgia over the Debed River, will be approximately 200 meters long. Two separate parallel bridges will be constructed, with two lanes of traffic in each direction.

The construction of the bridge is a joint Armenian-Georgian initiative. Fifty percent of the necessary funds for construction will be covered by the Armenian side, while the other fifty percent will be provided by the Georgian side.
