Dariga Nazarbayeva Reappointed as Head of Kazakhstan's Parliament
The members of the Kazakh Parliament have approved the appointment of Dariga Nazarbayeva as the head of the Parliament at the suggestion of the country's president and through their voting.
She is the eldest daughter of the country's first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev. Previously, Dariga Nazarbayeva also led the Kazakh Parliament, but after the changes in presidency, the deputies were required to formalize this process.
Nazarbayeva was appointed to this position earlier this year, following the transfer of the presidency to the current leader, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Tokayev was offered the presidency by Nazarbayev, who had led the country for nearly 30 years and now occupies the position of the President of the Security Council, managing the situation from the shadows.
