Sanitek Refuses to Collect Waste for the Fourth Day, Yerevan Municipality Says

The company Sanitek has refused to fulfill its waste collection duties throughout Yerevan for the fourth consecutive day without notifying the Yerevan municipality in writing about the reasons. This information has been shared on the Yerevan municipality's Facebook page.

“The company, which has already demonstrated its inability to meet its obligations over the past few months, has recently completely failed the waste collection process based on circumstances known only to itself. Under current legislation and the contracts signed with Sanitek, it is the municipality's direct obligation to impose sanctions for the company's failure to fulfill contractual obligations, and any fines applied by the municipality are based on well-founded and documented incidents. Legal consequences are provided for any business engaged in contractual relationships with the Yerevan municipality for unperformed, poorly performed work, and for services that were not rendered or inadequately provided, including the application of fines; in this respect, Sanitek is certainly no exception.

In recent months, the city has managed to avoid a waste collection collapse only due to the 24-hour operations of the community enterprise 'Yerevan Waste Collection and Sanitation', whose technical resources and staff are continuously being reinforced. At present, the community enterprise is performing waste collection across the entire city to the best of its abilities.

The Yerevan municipality is taking all possible measures to fundamentally resolve the waste collection issue in the capital, for the benefit of the city and its residents who have long suffered from this unacceptable state of waste management. We assess Sanitek's refusal to perform its contractual obligations as yet again an extreme manifestation of breach of contract, which will certainly have legal consequences,” the statement read.
