VIDEO: 845 Buses and 101 Trolleybuses to Be Launched in Yerevan - Marutyan

The Mayor of Yerevan has met with representatives of transport companies servicing the city’s routes. According to information from the press service of the Yerevan Mayor's Office, discussions focused on upcoming tasks, anticipated changes in the transport system, and issues related to the new route network.

Mayor Marutyan presented the main changes envisaged with the new route network. A unified network will ensure an integrated pricing and ticketing flexible system. Instead of the current 111 bus routes, only 42 are proposed, which will also significantly reduce the number of vehicles. A total of 845 buses and 101 trolleybuses will be launched. This number of buses includes reserve vehicles, which make up 15 percent of the total.

“In all negotiations, I emphasize the interests of the city and its citizens. This project for the capital should be as accessible as possible, ensuring maximum comfort for residents, and the city and its residents should be spared from any collapses or problems. We are also considering environmental issues to ensure environmentally friendly transportation,” said the mayor.

The implementation of the new transport network will require at least two years, including the provision of loans, the acquisition of new rolling stock through a competitive process, and the supply of necessary infrastructure. Meanwhile, the mayor has made several proposals to transport companies servicing the city routes. Starting next year, around 400 microbuses will be removed from the route network as their operational terms (15 years) are coming to an end. Currently, the urban network operates around 900 microbuses.

Existing companies can update their fleet and continue servicing existing routes, as well as acquire rolling stock that meets the requirements of the new network and participate in its operation.

Through a question-and-answer session, participants also presented their observations regarding the current and new route networks and the proposals presented. Soon, transport companies servicing the capital’s routes will present their vision for the implementation of new cooperative programs with the community.
