Familial Ties in Amulsar Case Confirmed, Investigative Committee Does Not Deny

The head of the Corruption, Property Crimes and Cyber Crimes Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia, Yura Ivanyan, was born in the village of Avshar in the Ararat region and has a familial connection to former Minister of Environment Aramayis Grigoryan. However, it is important to note that the opinions suggesting that this familial connection should call into question the objectivity of the investigation into the Amulsar case are unreasonable.

This was reported to NEWS.am by the Information and Public Relations Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia, responding to an article published on infocom.am titled “Investigator Yura Ivanyan in the Amulsar Case Has Family Ties with Former Minister of Environment.”

Regarding the exploitation of the Amulsar gold-bearing quartzite mine and the allegations of environmental pollution concealed by officials, the criminal case has been examined under the supervision of Yura Ivanyan. This was not due to any familial ties but rather because significant, high-profile criminal cases of particular complexity are being investigated by the Corruption Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee.
