Police Uncover Illegal Logging Cases in Tumanyan Division
The police report that on the night of August 21, officers from the Tumanyan division checked a "Ford Transit" loaded with timber on the Dsegh-Debed road, suspected of transporting illegal wood.
The driver, a 44-year-old resident of Vanadzor, failed to present relevant documents and claimed that the timber belonged to him, and he had acquired it from a forest near Dsegh by illegally cutting down one oak and two windfall poplars using a chainsaw. The vehicle loaded with timber was taken to a specially protected area of the Tumanyan division.
Continuing efforts to prevent and uncover environmental crimes, officers from the Tumanyan division recorded two more cases of illegal logging the following day. On August 22, around 2 AM, police checked a "GAZ-3507" vehicle driven by a 45-year-old resident of Gargarr, which was loaded with about 6 cubic meters of timber. The driver did not possess any documents for the timber.
Police determined that the timber belonged to a 47-year-old man from Gugark village, who had cut down two trees using a chainsaw from an area adjacent to Ahnidzor village on August 21. The vehicle loaded with timber was taken to the division's specially protected area.
Hours later, detectives checked a "Ford" driven by a 34-year-old resident of Dsegh at the beginning of the village, which was loaded with about 3 cubic meters of timber. Similar to the previous cases, the driver did not present any documents for the timber. According to him, the timber was his, and he had cut down two trees from an area adjacent to Dsegh village with a chainsaw 15 days prior. The vehicle loaded with timber was taken to the Tumanyan division's specially protected area.
The circumstances are being clarified. Expert examinations have been appointed. Materials are being prepared for all cases.
