Trump Does Not Rule Out Inviting Putin to Next G7 Summit

US President Donald Trump has stated that it is "entirely possible" to invite his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, as a guest to the next "Group of Seven" (G7) summit, according to a report by Bloomberg.

Trump mentioned that leaders of the G7 member countries have discussed the issue of Russia but admitted that he does not know whether Moscow will return to the group's fold or not.

Earlier, the White House head agreed with French President Emmanuel Macron's proposal to invite Russia to the G7 summit in the US in 2020.

It is important to note that the G7 is a forum of economically developed countries, which includes Italy, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, France, Germany, and Japan. The group operated in the G7 format from 1976 to 1997. After Russia's admission, it was renamed the G8. In March 2014, amid events in Ukraine and the resulting deterioration of relations between the US and Europe with Russia, the group members excluded Russia and returned to the G7 format.
