Airplane Collides with Helicopter in Mallorca Skies
A light aircraft has collided with a helicopter in the skies over the Spanish island of Mallorca. According to the Dpa news agency, there are no survivors from the crash.
As reported by the local authorities on their Twitter page, at least five people have died as a result of the incident. Spanish media has reported the number of casualties to be seven, indicating that the helicopter carried a couple with their two children along with the pilot, while the aircraft's pilot was transporting one passenger.
The identities of the victims are currently being determined. As reported by DW citing Diario de Mallorca, the investigation into the circumstances of the crash is being conducted by Spain's Civil Guard and aviation officials.
The incident occurred in the Inca area, located in the interior of the island. Eyewitnesses stated that one of the aircraft's wreckage pieces fell to the ground just five meters away from a residential building, while debris from the helicopter landed on an old rural road. Residents attempted to extinguish the fire at the scene with their own means before the arrival of emergency services.
