Let Amulsar Operate, We Are a Warring Country, Budget Money Must Come In: Residents of Gorayq to the Prime Minister

The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, is visiting the surrounding communities during his trip to Jermuk. He is currently in Gorayq, familiarizing himself with the issues of the community. The Prime Minister was also presented with other community issues unrelated to the operation of the Amulsar mine.

He visited the laboratory of 'Lydian,' where a local chemist explained to him the mechanisms of water purification. Following this, Prime Minister Pashinyan engaged in a Q&A session with the residents of Gorayq. One resident expressed that their community does not have complaints regarding the operation of Amulsar and, in fact, wants it to be operational.

'Let it operate, it is good for the economy, we are a warring country, and budget money must come in. We are young people and we need jobs; if environmental risks are manageable, let it work. What are we supposed to do, leave this country?' said one of the villagers.

Another resident stated that 'Lydian Armenia' is the only company that urged to explore the area for any historical and cultural values before the mining operations began, if there are any.

Another Gorayq resident noted that educated and skilled individuals from their village had not worked at Amulsar: 'About 30 people from our village have worked, but mainly in unskilled jobs, and the rest were brought in from Yerevan and Ejmiatsin. There is no leader from these villages, everyone is just working as unskilled laborers, and at best, as drivers,' he continued.
