Approximately 140 Hectares of Vegetation Burned in Syunik Province Fire

On August 23, at 08:56, a fire that broke out near the reservoir in Geghi village of Syunik Province has been extinguished. This was reported by the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Approximately 140 hectares of vegetation have been burned.

On August 22, at 05:00, operations to extinguish the fire, which had started on August 20 at 11:00 near the reservoir in Geghi village, resumed. A total of 35 firefighters, 20 employees from the "Kapan" branch of the State Non-Commercial Organization (SNCO) “Hayantar”, 20 employees from the “Zangezur Biosphere Complex” SNCO, 30 military servicemen, and 10 village residents were involved in the firefighting efforts.

The affected area included approximately 115 hectares of grassland and 25 hectares of forested areas (including oak and juniper trees and shrubs). The fire was contained by 13:37, and a watch was established at the site.

It should be noted that on August 20 at 11:00, the “911” service received a call reporting a fire in the vegetation near the reservoir in Geghi village. Two operational groups from the regional rescue department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and two firefighting units were dispatched to the scene. The fire initially covered about 10 hectares before spreading to reach up to 100 hectares, affecting forested areas as well.

On August 21 at 14:26, firefighting operations were suspended, and a watch was maintained with the participation of 5 firefighters and 5 employees from the “Kapan” branch of the "Hayantar" SNCO, as well as 5 from the “Zangezur Biosphere Complex” SNCO.
