The Government is No Longer Transparent; The Current Situation is a Result of Populism – Ani Samsonyan

Ani Samsonyan, a member of the 'Bright Armenia' parliamentary group, believes that the situation around Amulsar is becoming increasingly tense, whereas it should have been the opposite. She stated that the examination should have addressed numerous questions, which did not happen.

In an interview with Tert.am, the MP noted that she had approached the Investigative Committee to obtain additional information regarding the examination, as it became clear during this time that no proper examination had actually taken place.

"The first question is how the company 'Elard' was selected to conduct the examination. For example, it became apparent that the head of the Deputy Prime Minister's office has connections with this company, which raises questions. The other issue is that 'Elard' did not conduct its own examination; rather, it gathered information from various sources and, by synthesizing that information, provided an assessment. If you look at the action plan, they clearly state that they met with representatives of 'Lydian,' went to the site with them, spent a day there, and participated in 'Lydian's' conferences, meaning that 'Lydian' had an influence as a source of information on this evaluation," she emphasized.

She pointed out that regarding the risks, it appears that there is a universal document where everyone can find answers to their preferred questions. Samsonyan underscored that under conditions of risk, the exploitation of Amulsar is unacceptable, and she finds unclear the logic behind Nikol Pashinyan's statement that the exploitation of Amulsar would introduce unprecedented environmental standards in the mining sector.
