Sona Aghekyan Files Complaint with Police Demanding Legal Grounds for Her Detention

The former member of the Yerevan Council, Sona Aghekyan, has submitted a request to the Shengavit division of the Police in Yerevan, demanding to provide the legal grounds for her detention on the night of August 13. She announced this during a live broadcast on her Facebook page.

“The police will attempt to provide the materials of the case in writing. Once I receive those documents, I will naturally make them public, because on that day, we did not engage in any illegal activities. We were merely exercising our constitutional right to hold a peaceful demonstration and protest,” she said.

Aghekyan stated that the police informed her that the case is still under investigation, but they will present the written documents within five days, detailing what legal demands were made by the police that they did not comply with. “I insist that no legal or illegal demands were made. There was no request to which we could have either complied or refused. Our struggle must ensure that no one can arbitrarily misuse their official position to violate the rights of our citizens. Be brave and love our Yerevan,” concluded Sona Aghekyan.
