Hunting in Armenia Permitted Only Three Days a Week
Based on Article 5, Part 2, and Article 8, Part 1, Point 8 of the Law of the Republic of Armenia on "Hunting and Management of Hunting Resources," Environment Minister Erik Grigoryan has signed a decree establishing the permissible quotas and hunting periods for hunting animals for 2019-2020. According to the Ministry of Environment, hunting is allowed only on Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and on legally established holidays and memorial days.
This year marks the second consecutive year in which hunting of mammals is not permitted during the hunting season, except for wolves and jackals.
The decree specifies the allowable quotas and hunting periods for hunting animals for 2019-2020 as follows:
- Lapwing: From August 24, 2019, to October 31, 2019 (up to 8 per hunter per day).
- Pigeon (rock pigeon and forest pigeon): From August 24, 2019, to January 31, 2020 (up to 4 rock pigeons and 2 forest pigeons per hunter per day).
- Quail (field and steppe): From September 2, 2019, to October 31, 2019 (up to 4 per hunter per day).
- Grouse (common): From September 2, 2019, to October 31, 2019 (up to 8 per hunter per day).
- Crane (stone crane): From November 1, 2019, to December 31, 2019 (up to 5 per hunter per day).
- Heron (black heron, gray heron): From August 18, 2019, to December 31, 2019 (up to 4 per hunter per day).
- Waterfowl (ducks and swans): From September 15, 2019, to February 28, 2020 (up to 2 ducks and 2 swans per hunter per day).
During the 2019-2020 hunting season, individuals possessing a hunting permit for the species specified in Point 1 of this decree can hunt gray crows, magpies, wolves, and jackals. Hunting may only occur on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, as well as on officially recognized holidays and memorial days in Armenia.
Additionally, according to a decision by the Government of the Republic of Armenia on July 10, 2003 (N884-N), the head of the Agency for Management of Biological Resources of the Ministry of Environment is tasked with organizing the signing of contracts for the use of biological resources.
