Fire Near Geghi Village Reservoir Continues; 30 Soldiers Involved in Firefighting

The firefighting operations that began on August 20 at 11:00 AM near the reservoir of Geghi village in Syunik Province continue. Two operational teams from the regional rescue department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and two firefighting units have been dispatched to the scene.

As of 9:30 PM, approximately 60 hectares of vegetation are burning. A total of 35 firefighters, 30 employees from the Kapan branch of the State Forest Committee, 20 employees from the Zangezur Biosphere Complex, and 10 local residents are participating in the firefighting efforts. About 50-60 hectares of grassland, oak trees, and shrubs are affected by the fire.

On August 21, at 14:26, the firefighting operations were suspended, and a shift was established with 5 firefighters, 5 employees from the Kapan branch of the State Forest Committee, and 5 from the Zangezur Biosphere Complex. At 5:00 AM on August 22, firefighting operations resumed, involving 35 firefighters, 20 employees from the Kapan branch of the State Forest Committee, 20 employees from the Zangezur Biosphere Complex, 30 soldiers, and 10 village residents.

Approximately 115 hectares of grassland and 25 hectares of forested area (including oak trees and shrubs) are burning in the mentioned area. The fire was contained by 1:37 PM. A duty shift was established at the site, and additional information will be provided.
