VIDEO: Former School Principal Embezzles Over 18 Million Drams

According to operational information received from the National Security Service of Armenia, a significant embezzlement case has been uncovered in Vardenis thanks to the collaboration between the police's Department for the Fight Against Organized Crime, the Corruption and Economic Crime Prevention Unit, the Gegharkunik Regional Police Directorate, and the Vardenis Division.

As a result of a comprehensive series of operational-investigative measures, law enforcement officials have established that the former principal of the school in the Tsovak community of Vardenis, based on preliminary findings from the investigation, appointed his son as deputy principal at the same school on January 1, 2014. The son did not report to work with the knowledge and permission of the school’s officials, and the salary amounting to a substantial 18 million 400 thousand drams, which was withdrawn in his name, was embezzled or misappropriated.

Additionally, the same individual has been recorded as a teacher of Armenian History and Technology since March 2009 at the Akunk village secondary school, and approximately 180 thousand drams have been calculated and withdrawn in his name as salary.

Criminal cases have been initiated regarding the embezzlement or misappropriation. Measures are being taken to clarify all circumstances of the incident. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
