Former Head of Gundevaz Community Sold Land to Lydian Armenia; 70 Million AMD Recovered from Damages, Investigative Committee

The former head of Gundevaz community sold land to Lydian Armenia LLC, causing significant damage to the community. This was reported by the Investigative Committee.

According to the statement: "Considering public interest, we inform that a criminal case has been initiated regarding the apparent abuses committed by the former head of Gundevaz community, being investigated by the regional investigative department of Vayots Dzor of the RA Investigative Committee. It has been established that the community leader, knowing that Lydian Armenia LLC was purchasing lands, abused his official powers for selfish purposes, using his official position against the interests of community service. As the head of the body organizing the auction for the alienation of lands, based on the auction commission’s minutes and the decision of the community leader, on May 29, 2014, a 9.91-hectare pasture land from the community was sold via auction for 410,130 AMD to his son, who subsequently sold the mentioned land to Lydian Armenia LLC on May 26, 2015, at a significantly higher price of 147,300,838 AMD, causing substantial damage to the community.

Based on sufficient evidence, the former head of Gundevaz community has been charged under Article 308, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code. A signature not to leave has been chosen as a measure of restraint against him. During the preliminary investigation, a total of 70,000,000 AMD has been recovered from the damage caused to the community. The investigation is ongoing."
