Live: Protest Against Amulsar Exploitation at Baghramyan 26
The spokesperson for the Prime Minister of Armenia, Vladimir Karapetyan, approached citizens gathered in front of Baghramyan 26 demanding that the Amulsar mine not be exploited. The protesters expressed their dissatisfaction to Karapetyan, stating that police were requesting them to hold the demonstration on the opposite sidewalk.
SHANTNEWS.am inquired with Karapetyan about how many environmentalists were participating in the ongoing consultations near the Prime Minister regarding the Amulsar issue. "I find it difficult to say, but I think there are about 10 environmentalists from various organizations taking part," he said.
The exploitation of Amulsar could potentially pollute both the waters of Jermuk and Lake Sevan. Activist Gevorg Safaryan, a member of the Sasna Tsrer party, who is currently participating in the protest at Baghramyan 26, spoke about this concern during an August press conference.
