Investigation Completed in the Murder Case of 57-Year-Old Julieta Ghukasyan by Russian Soldier in Gyumri

The Shirak Regional Investigation Department has completed the preliminary investigation into the murder of 57-year-old Gyumri resident Julieta Ghukasyan. This was reported by the Information and Public Relations Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.

Earlier, it was reported that on December 2, 2018, Julieta Ghukasyan, born in 1961, was admitted to the Gyumri Medical Center with diagnoses including "polytrauma, closed head injury, closed chest injury, traumatic shock, and coma," where she later died.

In connection with the case, a criminal case was opened by the Shirak Regional Investigation Department under Article 112, Part 2, Clause 14 of the RA Criminal Code.

During the preliminary investigation, extensive investigative and procedural actions were carried out, as well as operational-search measures, which clarified the circumstances of the incident and the identity of the alleged perpetrator, a Russian citizen and contract serviceman born in 1995.

According to the investigation, on December 2, 2018, around 7 AM, the 24-year-old serviceman, under the influence of alcohol, followed Julieta Ghukasyan as she walked down the street, intentionally delivering multiple blows to her head and various parts of her body, causing serious bodily harm which inadvertently led to her death.

Based on the combination of sufficient evidence, the 24-year-old serviceman has been charged under Article 112, Part 2, Clause 14 of the RA Criminal Code. He has been detained as a preventive measure.

The completion of the preliminary investigation has been announced, and the criminal case has been forwarded to the prosecutor responsible for overseeing the legality of the preliminary investigation with a request to confirm the indictment and send it to court.
