"I Decided to Land the Aircraft Without Landing Gear as it Would Be Safer": A321 Pilot Damir Yusupov
Today morning, it was reported that an A321 aircraft made an emergency landing in a cornfield. It is noted that during the ascent, the aircraft collided with a flock of birds, which caused both engines to fail due to bird strikes. One of the engines started burning.
There were 234 people on board, including a 7-member crew. Currently, it is known that 74 passengers were injured during the emergency landing.
In a meeting with journalists, the pilot of the aircraft, Damir Yusupov, provided details about the technical issues that arose and how the plane was landed afterward. Interestingly, both the pilot and the crew do not consider themselves heroes. As the A321 pilot modestly states, they simply did their job.
