Criminal Proceedings Against TV Commentator and Former MP Suspended

The criminal proceedings against TV commentator Hamlet Ghushchyan and former MP Samvel Aleksanyan have been suspended. This was reported to NEWS.am by the Investigative Committee.

The suspension of the proceedings is based on the first part of the first point of Article 31 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which states that the identity of the person to be involved as an accused in the case is unknown.

Recall that months ago, Ghushchyan announced through media that former MP and businessman Samvel Aleksanyan had kidnapped him and held a gun to his forehead. On March 4, the prosecution announced that the media reports regarding Ghushchyan's claims had been sent to the main department of criminal investigation of the Armenian Police, with instructions to verify the presented circumstances.

As a result, on March 29, a criminal case was initiated under the first part of Article 38-131 and the second part of Article 131 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, which involves the kidnapping of a person by a group of individuals acting in preliminary agreement with the use of weapons or objects used as weapons, accompanied by actual violence threatening life or health or the threat of such violence.

Within the framework of the initiated criminal case, both Hamlet Ghushchyan and Samvel Aleksanyan were interrogated, but to date, no person has been involved as an accused in the case.
