Public Television Covers Constitutional Court's Activities in a One-Sided, Unfounded, and Biased Manner: 'Media Defender'

In recent months, Public Television has been covering the activities of the Constitutional Court and the artificially created situation surrounding it in a one-sided, unfounded, and biased manner. Comments have been heard on Public Television that lack any correlation with legal science, providing evaluations that do not withstand any criticism and making conclusions that are not based on facts. This conclusion has been drawn by the 'Media Defender' initiative.

Meanwhile, according to Part 2 of Article 42 of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, the state guarantees the operation of independent public television and radio that offers a diversity of information, educational, cultural, and entertainment programs. The behavior of Public Television is nothing but an attempt to delegitimize the role of the Constitutional Court, which is tasked with ensuring the supremacy of the Constitution.

This behavior toward the Constitutional Court also represents a violation against the Constitution itself, disrupting the foundations of our state's constitutional order and legal security. We urge Public Television to fulfill its mission as stipulated by the Constitution, rather than turning into a political propaganda machine. At the same time, we draw the attention of the Television and Radio Commission to the obligation to effectively oversee Public Television's compliance with the diversity of informational, educational, cultural, and entertainment programs as set forth in Article 196, Part 1 of the Constitution.
