Pashinyan Meets with Relatives of March 1 Victims

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met today at the government with the relatives of the victims of March 1, including Gorr Kloyan's legal successor Sargis Kloyan, Armen Farmanian's legal successor Vachagan Farmanian, Tigran Abgaryan's legal successor Rouzanna Harutyunyan, Tigran Khachatryan's legal successor Hovsep Khachatryan, Samvel Harutyunyan's legal successor Edik Harutyunyan, Davit Petrosyan's legal successor Jemma Vardumyan, and Grigori Gevorgyan's legal successor Varduhi Baghdasaryan.

Addressing them, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated, “I want to refer to the decision made at the last cabinet meeting regarding the provision of financial support to the legal successors of the victims of March 1. I want to emphasize that this is merely assistance and should not be perceived in any way as compensation, as the life of a citizen of the Republic of Armenia has no price. My principled position is that the final resolution of this issue should be determined by the European Court of Human Rights. This decision is an interim step that documents the political stance of the Government of the Republic of Armenia. Further processes should continue and take place in the context of the ECHR ruling.”

The relatives of the March 1 victims noted that following the Velvet Revolution, they have great hopes tied to the Prime Minister and the government's activities and expressed confidence that the ongoing changes in the country will provide the opportunity to conduct an objective investigation and fully reveal the March 1 case.

The Prime Minister and the relatives of the March 1 victims exchanged views on the progress of the March 1 investigation and the work being carried out towards the construction of a monument in memory of the victims.
