Over 150 Rescuers, Soldiers, and Police Fighting Fire in Syunik’s Fir and Juniper Forest

On August 11, at 16:03, the ‘911’ service received a call reporting a fire in the forest along the Lehvaz-Vardanidzor highway in the Syunik region.

A firefighting rescue team dispatched one combat unit from the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) at 16:50. According to preliminary data, a vegetation area and a fir and juniper forest, located in highly fragmented and inaccessible terrain, are burning.

Currently, the fire covers a front width of two kilometers and a length of one and a half kilometers, with a risk of further spread. The fire does not pose a threat to nearby settlements.

Operational groups from the MES National Center for Crisis Management’s emergency response and regional rescue administration, a communication vehicle from the operational management department, and two combat units from the firefighting rescue unit have also been sent to the scene, along with two combat units from the Special Rescue Operations Center.

In total, 67 rescuers, 30 soldiers from the Meghri military unit, 45 police officers from Meghri, 25 employees from the Syunik branch of the ‘Hayantar’ state non-profit organization, 15 from the ‘Zangezur Biosphere Complex’ state non-profit organization, and 15 from the ‘Armenia National Park’ are participating in the firefighting efforts.

The fire was contained at 09:46. Approximately 12 hectares of vegetation, fir, and juniper have burned. Further information will be provided.
