VIDEO: Tragic Storks – What We Saw is Truly a Catastrophe
Doctor of Political Science Hayk Martirosyan has published a video presenting his and the initiative of Karen Aghababyan, the head of the NGO “Towards Sustainable Ecosystems,” aimed at rescuing the distressed storks. He mentions, “The stork is, for me, a crucial component of Armenia's ecosystem, a national symbol, and an ancient inhabitant of the Ararat Plain. The true symbol of Armenia is not the pomegranate, which has also become a national symbol for Azerbaijan and Israel, but the stork itself. Due to several years of crimes committed against nature, which peaked this year in the Ararat Plain, the Armenian stork is on the brink of extinction. According to the conclusion of the Armenian government, the activities of fish farms have endangered this unique bird. Despite this, there is no criminal case, and no fish farm has been closed immediately pending the investigation's conclusion, as any government that loves its country would have done. The state's participation in the rescue effort is minimal. According to environmentalists, there are still hopes for greater involvement. I have taken on the mission to help save the storks, realizing the significance of the issue and witnessing the sacred and desperate efforts of environmentalists and some local residents. Yesterday, I visited the Ararat region with Karen Aghababyan, who coordinates the rescue efforts. What we saw is indeed a tragedy. We expect a serious and substantial response from volunteers and those willing to help from abroad. Every day brings us closer to the inevitable loss of Armenia's storks. You can contact us either through me and my page, or by visiting Karen Aghababyan's Facebook page for the Armenian Birdwatching Association. We expect a prompt response, especially from our compatriots living in the USA. Thank you.
