The Number of Injured During Atambaev's Arrest Reaches 136
The number of injuries resulting from the special operations conducted with the aim of arresting former Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambaev has reached 136. This was reported by РИА Новости, citing a statement from the country’s Ministry of Health.
“Medical assistance has been provided to 136 injured individuals on August 7, 8, and 9, 2019,” the department reported, specifying that 109 of them sought treatment at medical facilities, while 27 received assistance in the village of Koy Tash. Currently, 14 injured individuals are still receiving treatment at medical facilities. Of these, 13 are in stable condition, while the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Chuy region department, Samat Kurmankulov, remains in a coma.
Recall that on Wednesday, special forces launched an assault on Atambaev's residence, which continued until the following day afternoon, after which the former president surrendered to the authorities.
Following the interrogation, Atambaev was charged in a corruption case regarding the illegal release from prison of criminal authority Aziz Batukaev.
