Charges Filed Against Former Director of "Rustavi-2" for Abuse of Authority

The Tbilisi City Court has partially granted the prosecutor's motion and has set a bail of 40,000 lari for Nika Gvaramia, the former executive director of "Rustavi-2," as reported by Sputnik Georgia.

On Friday evening, the prosecutor's office officially charged Gvaramia with abuse of authority. According to the investigation, Gvaramia failed to demand approximately 6.8 million lari (about 2.3 million dollars) from the company "Inter Media Plus," with which he had signed a contract for advertising placement rights.

The prosecutor's office submitted a motion for a bail set at 80,000 lari, but the court halved that amount and prohibited Gvaramia from leaving the country without notifying the prosecutor's office. The former executive director of "Rustavi-2" must pay the specified bail amount within 30 days.

Meanwhile, Gvaramia insists he does not intend to pay the amount. The court has stated that if the bail is not paid, the measure of restraint may be replaced with imprisonment.

A criminal case was initiated against Gvaramia for using his authority in pursuit of personal gain while holding a managerial position, causing significant harm. This crime carries a penalty of a fine or corrective labor for up to two years or home arrest from six months to two years, or imprisonment for up to three or five years.
