Attempt to Smuggle Large Quantity of Drugs into Armavir Prison Prevented by Investigative Committee and NSS

On August 4, at around 09:00, employees of the Armenian Ministry of Justice’s penitentiary service, acting on operational data received from the National Security Service (NSS), in collaboration with NSS officers, prevented an attempt by a medical staff member of the Armavir penitentiary to smuggle a large quantity of drugs, including psychoactive pills and other prohibited items into the facility.

According to the information department of the Ministry of Justice, the inspection of the vehicle parked by the medical staff member identified various prohibited items intended for prisoners at the Armavir penitentiary. These items included two packages resembling 40 grams of marijuana-like dry plant material, 50 psychoactive pills of type 'Lyrica 30mg', five mobile phones, two chargers for mobile phones, 124,000 Armenian drams, one bottle of brandy with a capacity of one liter, and six bottles of beer with a capacity of one liter each.

The collected materials have been forwarded to the investigative body. A criminal case has been initiated by the Investigative Committee at the Armavir regional investigative department regarding the illegal acquisition, transportation, and delivery of drugs and psychoactive substances with the intention of distributing them in the prison. This is under Article 34-268, part two and Article 266, part two, point three of the Armenian Criminal Code. The medical staff member, V. A., has been arrested.
